October 8, 2014
Present were: Christine Comstock, Kathleen Esposito, Ken Kvacek, John Bourisseau, Kathleen Hale, Bonnie Borman Goldston, Dale Berger
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Comstock at 10:00 AM.
Approval of the Minutes:
The minutes from September 10, 2014 were approved as submitted .
Service Director Report:
The Park and the paths have looked great. The new trees that Will Borden has put in are doing very well in the plaques underneath them look excellent. There is an area at the bottom of the sledding hill now that is very appealing and safe for little sledders.
The benches have been in perfect locations for the summer and will be moved for the Boo–Ville Halloween party. The benches will stay around the fire for the winter.
Dale mentioned the sign boards that we have been using. They will need some repair as we have used them so much the summer. They certainly have done a great job. We talked about the possibility of having volunteers change the message on the sign boards.
Eagle Scout Project:
We will ask Will to come to the Council meeting in October and receive a commendation from the Mayor on behalf of the Village.
The directory is finished and very impressive and a great convenience. The committee thanked Ken profusely for his conceptualization of the idea and even more importantly, for his perseverance in bringing the project to completion. The directory has cost the village nothing – advertising and donations have covered all costs. The nice touches of the map of the village and the map of the park , the listing by streets as well as by name and the addition of teenagers who might be looking for work are exceptional added benefits .
The summer issue of the newsletter has been delivered and looks good. Although at some time, we can envision a time residents will receive their newsletters by email, we all agree they look good.
Holiday Lighting: November 30: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Kathleen Esposito has bakers ready to bake, singers ready to sing, trees scheduled to be let and plans for food, drink and Santa. She will have small Christmas bags for the children to take home. A very good way to officially start The Holiday Season.
The Fall Solstice Cheerful Hour celebration was September 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. Music entertainment was provided by The Wonderful World of Gary Lee. Don Hines brought his laptop and telescope and was able to show us galaxies , planets and stars. He was clear, knowledgeable and we were fascinated .
The Village Garage Sale was held Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m with the Chagrin Falls Village Garage Sale. Next year we will do a better job of PR for both people buying and people selling . People definitely liked the idea .
The Meditation Group in the Park has continued to meet Wednesdays at 11 AM since July 23 and never had to call a rain day. Next year we will look to add Yoga and other forms.
The Boo-Ville Halloween Park Fest: Saturday, October 26: 5 PM to 7:30 PM
Michael Nemunaitis will leading this event for adults and kids. There will be hayrides, treasure hunts, games and apple cider.
Art. Beth Skeel has the old painting of Bentleyville and John will get it.
Bonnie Goldman talked about the possibility of re-landscaping – simplifying landscaping – around Village Hall. She will bring it up with the Garden Club and we will talk about it next month.
We talked about next year’s calendar and added the clambake to the September 18 Cheerful Hour.
We talked about having a wooden sign lasered or a stone sign engraved or etched. Dale will look at the old stones.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:55.
