Village of Bentleyville
Parks, Facilities and Beautification
February 1, 2012
The meeting was called to order at 10 AM.
Present: Christine Comstock, Chair, John Bourisseau, Chief Tim Pitts, Dale Berger
The Committee noted some of the major projects presently proposed and/or in motion including the fire pit and Eagle Scouts, the flower beds and the Garden Club and the issue of structure for tables, chairs and tent for the residents use in the Park. Having a storage structure at the park to store the tables, chairs and/or tent would provide a convenient place to store them and would protect them from damage that might be incurred loading them in and out of trucks. The cost of building and maintaining a structure is a major concern. The next newsletter will include information about the Park, residents may offer feedback. More information about the use of the tables and chairs will be gathered this summer.
Wendy Gillund has offered to mark the Horse Trail. (Thank you, Wendy)
The Committee looked at the list of tasks and agreed that additional service hours will make it easier to manage the tasks in a planned and thorough way.
The Police and Service Department workers have noted that the Park is frequently used at lunchtime by office people from neighboring communities such as Chagrin Falls and Solon, and by service people from Chagrin Falls and Solon and delivery people who know the area, such as FedEx. The Committee considered ways to make the Park more comfortable for them.
The Porta-potty will be installed and ready by April 1, 2012.
The Committee discussed how best to help the Service Department set up a regular, workable maintenance schedule for snowplowing, the Park, Union Cemetery, Village Hall both inside and out including the parking lot, the Village gardens and landscaping, the Service Garage and parking area, Bentleyville roads and road right-of-way, services to residents such as leaf pickup and branch chipping, regular servicing and maintaining of trucks, tractors, snowplows and police cars. Discussed the parking lot at Village Hall (as well as general Village Hall responsibilities) and the broken stones and curbing. We support Safety and Streets recommendation to hire two full-time employees.
We have three bids each for painting Council chambers and for treating the Pavilion roof. Chief Pitts, Greg Potts and Dale Berger will look at the bids and make a recommendation at the next committee meeting. Chief Pitts and Dale Berger will meet with Jeff Filarski about the Village Hall parking lot and broken curb stones.
Meeting was adjourned 11:00 AM. The next meeting will be held March 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM.
