Parks, Facilities and Beautification Minutes
February 20, 2014

Present were: Christine Comstock, Kathleen Esposito, Ken Kvacek, John Bourisseau, Kathleen Hale, Dale Berger, Will Borden

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Comstock at 10:12 AM.

Approval of the Minutes: The December 11, 2013 minutes were approved as submitted.

New Business:

Will Borden was present to discuss his proposed Eagle Scout project.  He had brought his list of ideas and got some additions from the committee.  He will send in his more formal plan.  Another Eagle Scout will also be thinking about Bentleyville.

As we looked over the list of possible ideas and discussed potential projects and/or activities to take place in the Park, we discussed a variety of ideas.  I will add to the list we have and we will continue discussion.  We talked about the Solon Road Bridge lights and what to do next year.  Troy will look at them and offer recommendations.

There's a strong desire to provide more opportunities for the residents to get together as a community and so we discussed ideas to accomplish that goal.  We plan to have a holiday tree lighting ceremony at Village Hall on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. The tree lighting will take place at 6:45 PM.  We tentatively scheduled a Park cleanup day for Saturday, April 12, 2014, with Sunday, April 13, 2014 as the backup rain day.

Chagrin River Watershed Partners: Kathleen Esposito, Representative and Kathleen Hale, Alternate Representative have agreed to be official Bentleyville representatives at the Watershed Partners’ meetings.  They will bring back information and cast our vote when (if) votes are taken.

Ken Kvacek has been gathering information about Bentleyville properties such as the Union Cemetery and the Park and other assets.  We talked about the history of Bentleyville and some of the opportunities to learn more about our own history.

Dale brought in prices for the fertilizer for crab trees, $776.  We will renew our contract again with Davey Tree.

Mayor Spremulli will attend the March meeting to give his thoughts.

Meeting was adjourned at 11:36.  Next meeting: 10:00 AM March 12, 2014
