Serve Preserve Conserve
Parks, Facilities and Beautification Minutes
June 16, 2014
Present were: Christine Comstock, Kathleen Esposito, Ken Kvacek, John Bourisseau, Kathleen Hale, Dale Berger
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Comstock at 10:30 AM.
Approval of the Minutes:
The minutes from May 14, 2014 were approved as submitted.
Service Director Report:
Dale has hired 2 part time seasonal people and has also hired 2 police people for some additional hours. He had been very backed up and he has been relieved to be able to catch up on some of the projects he and Lloyd had not been able to get to. Dale mentioned that the flag holders that were on the poles on the Solon Road Bridge were taken down with the old poles. The committee agreed that we want the flag holders available for the flags on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.
Eagle Scout Project:
Will Borden’s plan has been approved, he is planning to begin work now that school is out.
Ken has been working on the layout for the directory. He will be meeting with the people who created the first Park map to get an updated map for the directory. We are also including a street address map and information about Club B’Ville and the Garden Club. We talked about how best to get the list of residents’ e-mail addresses compiled.
The meeting was held on May 27. Notes were taken by Ken Kvacek and are attached.
John Bourisseau placed a flag holder and a flag on Ralph Russell’s grave.
Holiday lighting: Kathleen discussed plans for the holiday lighting. We talked about the lighting for the bridge. Dale said they could string the lights higher this year and not do the swag effect. He thought that would keep them away from the salt. Ken will talk to Troy from the Jaycees to see if he has extra lights and could include the Park Pavilion in our lighting. In the past, Ken and the Boy Scouts have put up the lights on the Pavilion. This year we will include the Pavilion, the inside tree, the outside tree and the Bridge in the lighting ceremony. Kathleen asked about a budget to include bakery, refreshments, decorating materials, greenery and bows for the bridge and the signs. Last year the budget amount was $1000. We discussed asking for donations - perhaps including items that could be memorials/remembrances/ recognition.
Blue Star Memorial:
Kathleen reported that the Garden Club is considering buying a Blue Star Memorial Stone. This is a program honoring men and women who have served our country. More information can be found at http://www.gardenclub.org/1345. The Committee agreed we would be proud to have a Blue Star Stone in Bentleyville.
Activities Update – Ken is investigating music and entertainment for each event.
Summer Schedule is attached.
Meeting was adjourned at 11:20.
